05.28.08 Siding Almost Done!

Our siding is soon to be done - with just the trims left. It seemed like forever, but we only had one person and he also had to re-do 1/3 of the work already completed. We have no complaints because we were able to change the textured siding to smooth siding!

We also glazed the first floor windows and installed the exterior doors. See pictures below.

I found your blog and love it. I am remodeling a house in Seattle and I find your comments helpful. We seem to be going over budget so I would love to see if you can share some of the names of your subs.

By the way, I love the wood siding you used. What is it?

Where did you find the best deal for your milgard windows? Nana wall?

Thanks, we're glad you found our blog helpful. The Milgard windows we got directly from the manufacturer. They have been pretty good and we were pretty happy with the prices. As for the Nana wall, the local dealer really has a monopoly. If you want to get the Nana wall system you kinda have no choice but to pay for it. They also charge quite a bit for installation. However, if you're ok with a system of slightly less quality (but comes with a bug screen and many other interesting features), I would check out Tostem. http://www.tostem-america.com/bifold.html. They are much much cheaper. One difference though is that the sizes are fixed, so you have to adjust your rough opening to their standard sizes. And for our siding, we're using 4" tongue and groove clear cedar. We plan to stain it to a slightly darker shade. Clear cedar is darn expensive though, so if budget is a concern, don't try to cover your entire house with it. Good luck with your remodel!

Thanks! I didn't realize you could order directly from Milgard. I just assumed you had to go with a dealer. I am going to check out the Tostem window wall system. We are also looking at using a Fleetwood window wall system. That is $$$ but could be worth it since it would completely open the corner of our family room. Thanks again! - kp
